The era of radio and telecommunication accelerated the process of globalization. A person can see each corner of the world without leaving home. Every day the world is getting closer to us. We are aware of all the events that take place thousands kilometers away from us. It is impossible to imagine our life without radio and television. It is like losing connection with the world out there.

XM Satellite Radio Inc. XM Radio was founded in 1992. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. due to its partnership the company is a leader in providing satellite-delivered data and entertainment services for the automobile market. The company operates over 170 digital channels of different kinds. XM Radio provides 69 commercial-free music channels, exclusive live concerts and original programming premier sports, talk, comedy, children’s and entertainment programming; and 21 channels of the most advanced traffic and weather information.

Problems? What problems may arise concerning radio broadcasting? They are not many but still are worth consideration. The company does not enjoy positive reputation among numerous consumers. They claim that all the promises are not fulfilled. The sound quality is awful and the customer service seems to be even worse. People make down payments for the broadcasting services and then start receiving additional bills. It is no wonder that customers are not satisfied with the company. People receive a package of XM Radioservices as presents, do not sign any agreements with the company and then are charged and fined for what they thought was free. And one more thing that irritates the subscribers – the channels they pay for do not provide the programs they are supposed to. Recently such change, for example, took place on one of their music channels. People do not want to pay for those programs which they can get for free from other radio broadcasters.

Hearing Aids

People using hearing aids are usually suffering from hearing loss seniors whom our democratic society actually has to protect. Then, why do they encounter so many troubles? And what is actually a hearing aid, which these people so desperately need?

Hearing Aid.
This hearing aid is actually a device for assisting the hearing of partially deaf people (people suffering from hearing loss) and usually it consists of a small battery-powered electronic amplifier with microphone and earphone, worn by a deaf person in or behind the ear. This means that these partially deaf people are dependent on this device, without it they are unable to hear, which means – unable to react adequately to the things which happen around them. And this is actually a rather wide-spread problem, because according to different researches, there are more than 30 million people who are deaf, partially deaf or suffering from some kind of hearing disease, only in the USA.

Hearing aids problems.
The first and the most important problem concerning hearing aids is that they cost too much. And not every deaf senior is able to buy it. Modern, top-of-the-line device costs nowadays $2000-4000 at the average. But that is not the highest price which actually reaches $6000-7000. And how an average retired person can pay such a sum? But all medical equipment stores share the conviction that all seniors are pretty wealthy segment of our society and they are able to buy such an expensive device if they really need it. And that is why they are trying to sell only the most expensive hearing aids, so that if a deaf person comes to them, he or she does not have any other option than to buy a hearing aid at a high price or to leave without it. That is why people who share the same hearing problem have to stick to such providers of medical equipment who are interested not in the profit only but also in supporting their customers wealth and health.

IPhone - First Impressions of the Apple iPhone: Disappointment or Excitement?

There was such a fuss made by the representatives of the Apple Company before the presentation of the new Apple toy and many people have experienced a huge range of positive feelings and emotions evoked by the anticipation of the release of this dramatically new and long-expected phone. The slogans of the advertising campaign were catchy and promising. But now it is the high time for all the fans of the Apple-planet to take a more sober view of things because some troubles started to come around and they say that first impressions are half the battle.

Arguments for. On the one hand, the phone is really exclusive and unique: it combines functions the mobile phone, mp3 player and pocket computer. IPhone embraces the newest technology and the design is usual Apple-style: incredible, posh and trendy. OS X, 8 or 4 gig of the memory, 2 Mpixels camera, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, web-browser and organizer - the characteristics of the phone are impressive enough.

Arguments against. Buying the iPhone you are getting to an exclusive circle of the only one operator: AT&T and you sign up a contract for 2 years. Starting up from here you meet two more problems. First of all, to activate your sim in the AT&T system you might have to wait for hours, some people managed to do it in 15 minutes, some others stayed phoneless for 24 hours. Secondly, the battery life is super short and it can even not be able to function after 2 years, usage drains the battery, the bigger the usage – the shorter the life, and sometimes it does not even charge and finally dies. If the battery dies – the phone dies. But the bitterest disappointment lies in that fact that it is impossible to install and configure some other soft not supported and not certificated by Apple, Microsoft Office included. And for a common user OS X is just a tale that is told. The other issue is to synch the phone with your computer, which is also a trouble. Finally, the price of the iPhone is really a stiff one to pay, especially after analyzing the characteristics and drawing a conclusion that the biggest segment of the price is paid for the brand name only.
